A Spooky Halloween Party

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Halloween history is all about dressing up in scary costumes and eating sweets. There is no reason to make your party any different. When Halloween party planning it’s important that you decide on a theme, let your imagination go wild. Some good Halloween party ideas include horror films, myths and many more. Be sure to include some frightening Halloween party supplies. Green jelly with jelly insects always goes down a treat and not just with the kids.

The important thing when thinking about Halloween recipes is to consider whether you can dress your Halloween recipes up so they are suitably frightening for a Halloween party. Don’t forget to include alcohol for the adults and pop for the children, Halloween party games can be a very thirsty affair. Halloween party favors can be as outrageous or traditional as you like. Most kids will be more than happy with a bag full of treats, or you could use a party game to decorate cookies and scoop out pumpkins. These also make excellent party favors.

One of the most entertaining parts of arranging a Halloween party must be arranging the Halloween decorations. Fake spiders and bats are inexpensive at any time of year, although buying them in advance will mean they will be cheaper. Drape white sheets all over the furniture and the house, especially the banisters. Get hold of some dead flowers and spray them black. Fake spider webbing is always available and gives a brilliant effect, especially if you get the UV ones that glow in the dark. Consider putting up UV strip lights, if your budget is a little higher, this will really show off the white sheets to great effect.

Vacation Giveaway Scams

Monday, December 29th, 2008

The scam is when you call the number, you soon find out that you have to purchase another vacation package or pay some overpriced service charge. These fees can be anywhere in the ballpark of $200 to $600. All you will receive is a travel package describing your vacation with many restrictions on when you can take your trip. You will get an expiration date that is almost impossible to stay within, because your preferred travel dates will most likely be unavailable. You can expect additional charges for booking your reservations, which can range anywhere from $50 to $100 per booking. If you have complaints they will offer you an upgraded plan for an additional fee.

If you are one the few people, who do receive a vacation package, you can expect to receive low class accommodations. Please be aware that most of these scams do come from the southeastern part of Florida and these “vacation offers” may be an offer for you to pay $200 or more. It’s not a free vacation. They may sound enticing but keep in mind businesses can’t stay afloat selling goods or services for less than they really cost.

If you have been a victim of this fraud, you can file complaint with Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service @ http://www.800helpfla.com/ccform.html

Instead of scouring the mall for gifts this holiday season
why not consider using your cherished photos to create a
unique personalized gift for family and friends?

There are so many ways now, made easy with online sites and
programs, to create unique personal gifts using your digital
photos. Photo Books offer a way of creating a high quality
photo album, book bound with text and artwork options.
Calendars are always a perfect little gift or stocking
stuffer, what Grandmother would not love a calendar of her
precious grandchildren? Online sites offer easy ways of
editing pictures as well, change to black and white, sepia,

little fun in the process! Place your photos on mugs,
Mouse Pads, aprons, magnets, coasters, tote bags, and tee
shirts. Create personalized Holiday greeting cards as well.

Another unique idea is to have a collage of your photos
created. Collages are perfect unique gift ideas for anyone.
Photos are blended together for a seamless look. Themes
include; weddings, babies, children, parties, trips, family
reunions, or anything you can think of. Collages can then be

any other photo gift.

A calendar for the grandparents, using pictures from
throughout the year and a few themed collages. New baby in
the family? A baby collage printed on a Mouse Pad for the new
mother or father to have for their office. A collage of
wedding photos for a newlywed couple, matted and framed and
tied with a red ribbon makes a lovely gift!

the digital era and give unique gifts that your family and

Fort Smith Arkansas Web Community

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

The Fort Smith Arkansas area has a few hundred thousand people,
a large amount of commerce, and a great economy. When you try to
search for businesses in Fort Smith however you draw a blank.
This is because businesses haven’t created web sites, or have
just created them and left them alone, without linking to other
business or updating content or helping people to find them. As
a result searching for most things in Fort Smith is a big waste
of time, and businesses don’t make money off of there web site
investments. We are working on an experiment to see if within
the next year we can change this trend and make sure that all
businesses can be found easily and through regular search terms.
We started just 3 weeks ago on this project. If you are
interested to see if this is sucessful please check back with us
often or link to our site. If we can make this work we will
publish our method for everyone else in med sized to small town
america to follow. The site we are starting from is Kirkham Systems Web Design,
Fort Smith Arkansas.

Austria – Vienna, Salzburg, Halstatt and Sound of Music

Sunday, December 28th, 2008

Austria simply can’t be beat when it comes to beauty. You’ve seen the country in the Sound of Music, but the cities of Vienna, Salzburg and the alpine town of Halstatt are just as nice.

Vienna

Vienna is a city with a ridiculous amount of history. The home of the waltz, Habsburg Palaces and an unrivaled musical past. Walk for an evening through the cobblestone streets in the center city and you can almost hear a famous composer at work. In fact, many of the walking areas are lined with small orchestral ensembles playing their way through the evening. Elbowing in on their act, of course, are those unique artist who dress in a period piece and then stand in one position for what seems time eternal. Buddhist monks would be envious if they believed in envy.

The only downside to Vienna is the expense. It is very expensive. If you are going to spend some time in the city, be ready to pay for the privilege.

Salzburg

Salzburg is one of my favorite cities and I always try to hit it when I am traveling through Europe. The real home of Mozart, Salzburg is Vienna without less of the hustle and bustle. A walk through the shopping district will leave you breathless and, sometimes, penniless, but it is a worthwhile go. Salzburg is a city where you can drink bear with monks, take in an opera or just walk through exquisite rose gardens. Unfortunately, it gives Vienna a run for its money when it comes to being expensive. Yes, pun intended.

Halstatt

Halstatt is the little town in the Alps that puts the Sound of Music to shame. Located roughly an hour outside of Salzburg, the easiest way to reach it is by train. The train travels well up into the Alps and drops you off by the side of a lake. You plop down in a little hut and wait for the ferry from Halstatt to appear. The ferry then halls you across the lake to a Alpine town with no cars – Halstatt. It is like stepping into the past. People are friendly, prices are reasonable and romance is on the hoof. Swans swim along the outdoor cafes dotting the lake and, well, it is pretty dang nice. If you are looking for a little romance, Halstatt is definitely worth your consideration.

For many travelers, Austria gets scratched off the “must visit” list because it is so expensive. Still, you should try to visit it at least once in your life to take in the splendor.

Berlin Germany Insider Sightseeing – TOP 10 Sights – Part 4 of 4

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

What the Museum Island means to the UNESCO, is the Erotic Museum for adults. But let’s see what (else) amazingly we will discover today.

X. Erotik Museum

This “museum” lies on the corner of the seediest-looking block in Berlin. The museum in its exhibits honors the “queen of the Rubber Willy” herself, Beate Uhse. It’s a household name here in Germany. Her life is documented from her days at the “Deutsche Luftwaffe” to pictures of her at the helm of a large speedboat. This septuagenarian opened the world’s first shop devoted to “marital hygiene,” ultimately championing the right to sell contraceptives. Today she still heads the world’s largest sex-related merchandising business. Downstairs are video cabins filled with middle-aged men in raincoats and a “sex superstore.”

However, you start out on the third floor and work your way down (there is no sexual pun intended). Eventually, it is hard to believe, that it has become the fifth most visited museum in Berlin. The museum shelters 5,000 sexual artifacts from around the world. Asian and Indian miniatures of erotic positions; African fertility masks; large carved phalli from Bali; or some Chinese wedding tiles from the 18th and 19th century that were supposed to provide sexual education to a newly married couple. Life-size dioramas explore topics such as fetishism and S&M. Well-worth visiting.

XI. Gendarmenmarkt

Gendarmenmarkt is considered as Europeans most beautiful square, so a must see for every tourist. Here you will find three historical buildings; the “Konzerthaus” (Concert House), the “Deutscher Dom” (German Cathedral), and the “Franzoesischer Dom” (French Cathedral).

The square was laid out from 1688 to the plans of J.A. Nering. It was originally known as Linden Markt, then Friedrichstdtischer Markt or Neuer Markt. Because the square was used by a curassier regiment “gens d’arms,” from 1736-82, complete with sentry boxes and stables, the name Gendarmenmarkt arose. From 1777, the square was developed according to unified plans drawn up by Georg Christian Unger. It was badly damaged in the Second World War. On the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the Prussian Academy of the Sciences (Akademie der Wissenschaften), it was renamed “Platz der Akademie”. In 1991, its previous name was restored.

==> Konzerthaus

The Konzerthaus is the new building designed by Karl Friedrich Schinkel to replace the Nationaltheater built from 1800-02 by Karl Gotthard Langhans, which was burnt to the ground in 1817. The conception of the Konzerthaus integrates the remains of Langhan’s rectangular building and adds a higher, wider, gabled solidium in the center, complete with an ionic columned hall projecting at the front. Following its destruction in the Second World War, the building was initially only made safe, and the systematic restoration of the original design only began in 1979. Since its reopening in 1984 it has served not as a theatre, but as a concert hall.

==> Deutscher Dom

The German Cathedral was built from 1701-08. M. Grnberg planned it, and Giovanni Simonetti built it. From 1780-85, during the redesigning of the Gendarmenmarkt, Carl von Gontard added the domed tower onto the cathedral. The cathedral was destroyed in the Second World War as well. However, it had been reconstructed and rebuilt. The reopening was on October 2nd, 1996, five years after the reunification.

==> Franzoesischer Dom

The Franzsische Friedrichstadtkirche was built from 1701-05 by Cayart. He designed it as a church for Berlin’s Huguenot community. From 1780-85, the imposing tower of the French cathedral (Franzsischer Dom) was added to plans by Unger and Gontard as part of the redesigning of Gendarmenmarkt. In the World War 2, the cathedral was badly damaged. However, from 1977 on it was rebuilt and reconstructed.

And, how was the journey? Did you shoot enough photos? I hope so… :-) And did you recognize, that I gave you 11 instead of 10 tips? Good! :-)

Secret Holidays in England

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

When you think of holidays in England I wonder what images enter your head first? Maybe the famous red buses in London? Or possibly the splendour of Windsor Castle, the Tower of London or Buckingham Palace?

All of those images point to some great features of England for visitors but there is a hidden side to the country. If you try and move away from the well-trodden routes of the tourist trail you’ll find some real gems.

A great example of this is the South West of England. This is a region of the country that is sometimes overlooked by visitors and yet contains all of the key elements for a wonderful stay. You can certainly be forgiven for knowing little about this area, so maybe you’re unaware that it contains the finest Roman spa town in the country, sandy beaches, an indoor rainforest and some great surfing. A real mixture for all the family!

There are so many wonderful places to visit in the south west that it’s difficult to know where to start. Indeed, you’ll find that this article only gives you a small taster of what the region has to offer.

To begin with, let’s turn our attention to Bath, the unique city that is a World Heritage Site. The city of Bath was founded before the Romans even arrived in the British Isles but it is the Romans who expanded the city and helped to build its reputation. This was primarily due to their construction of the extensive Roman Baths complex, which is still open to visitors. Indeed, you’re still able to drink the spa water, produced from a natural spring!

The city is also renowned for its splendid and distinctive Georgian architecture – nowhere is this more evident than when you see the Georgian crescents. As you would expect of an English city, you’ll also find a more modern mix of shops, restaurants, theatres and pubs. The beauty of Bath is that the modern and the ancient seem to live side by side.

Elsewhere in South West England, Cornwall is a hidden gem that seems to have remained that way despite the fondness of the English for visiting the county on their own holidays.

The world famous Eden Project has provided a central focus for tourism in the region but it is by no means all that is on offer. You’ll find quaint, traditional seaside towns, as well as modern locations where you can relax on the beach and even enjoy the best surfing conditions in the country (St Ives is particularly popular for this pursuit).

Getting to the South West of England has never been easier, with Flybe flights available direct to Exeter Airport.

So next time you think about visiting England, take a look at what the South West has to offer. You’ll be nicely surprised.

Are Toys & Video Games The Right Christmas Gifts For Kids?

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

It’s the age of innocence when their eyes a little brighter and their smile are full of possibilities. Their minds are being shaped by everything around them and it’s important to make sure that those surroundings are positive and promote good character traits.

The question is are toys and video games the right Christmas gift for kids? The simple answer – yes.

Creative Development

Children love toys and they love to play video games. Imagination is the greatest gift that we can give our children and toys are essential to their creative development. With so many toys on the market, it’s difficult to choose which are best for our little ones during this holiday season. The best way to know is to ask your child to write a Christmas list. Go over the list and make sure that everything will be a positive learning, or playful, experience for your child. Avoid buying anything with an implication of violence or negative influences, which is sometimes present in current video games.

Promote Healthy Competition and Creativity

On the other hand… Video games can offer a very positive learning experience if selected carefully. They have the ability to promote healthy competition and creativity. If a child fails to achieve the next level in a video game, they are forced to come up with more creative ways to move forward. This creativity can lead to a wonderful imagination in all areas of life. Video games can also promote persistence and shows a child that patience is a key factor in achieving any goal. If a child begins playing a video game and stays with that game until he/she defeats it, this promotes patience, determination and intelligence. The child will learn that, if he/she works hard enough, they can achieve anything. This will carry over into other aspects of life and will be a positive experience. The most important thing is, that now, the child is simply having fun and doesn’t even realize how beneficial a creative mind can be. They don’t realize that they are learning and, to them, they’re just enjoying their toys.

Promote Sharing

Toys and games are terrific Christmas gifts for kids also because they promote sharing while keeping the child entertained and happy. Some toys promote learning, such as math and board games. Others, such as building blocks, promote creativity and the ability to build things on their own. A karaoke unit could help a child overcome shyness while a Barbie doll will allow a child to make up story lines and create fictional events.

Age Recommendations

Before choosing any toys or games as Christmas gifts for kids, make sure to read the age recommendations printed on the box or noted in the description. It’s important that the age recommendations match that of your child for safety reasons. If a toy needs batteries, don’t forget to include them in the box.

Unconditional Love

Keeping in mind that children are very influential, the best gift that we could ever give is unconditional love. Perhaps you can’t wrap it up or even add a fancy red bow, but that just goes to prove that the best things in life really are free.

Happy Holidays!
